Highland Parks Next Development

In Macomb or Canton townships, the groundbreaking for a new shopping plaza might not elicit a communitywide celebration. In Highland Park, the anticipated shovel ceremony at the Shops at Woodward Place later this month is expected to attract political and business leaders wearing their Sunday best.

At least four developers tried and failed to resurrect the site where the Sears department store departed in the mid-1980s. With the continuing help of HP Devco, the nonprofit development arm of the city, the Wayne County Land Bank and state Cities of Promise efforts, a $6 million plaza will rise up on a 40,000-square-foot brownfield site.

Saperstein Retires After 40 Years

Passing Of The Guard In a career spanning 40 years, Harriett Saperstein notched successes in community development projects in places most outsiders had given up for dead. Retiring a short time ago as president of HP Devco, Mrs. Saperstein is collecting praise as one of metro Detroit's hardest-working and most successful development officials.

: 5M In Federal Tax Credits Spur New HP Project

Work is wrapping up for the Highland Point Plaza retail center in Highland Park with its major anchor tenant set to move in soon. The retail center, located at 12029 Woodward Ave., features 18,700 square feet of retail space. It is set up to house about eight tenants, but floor plans are flexible for businesses.

Visteon To Build Plant In Highland Park

Visteon Corp., in the middle of trying to sell or close some unwanted plants, said Tuesday it will spend $35 million to build a plant at Chrysler Corp.'s old headquarters in Highland Park. VC Ram LLC, Visteon's wholly owned subsidiary that makes auto-interior parts, will create 175 jobs at the 217,000-square-foot plant.

State Gives $1.73M Tax Credit To Visteon To Build HP Plant

Tax Break Van Buren Township-based Visteon Corp. (NYSE: VC) received a $1.73 million, seven-year tax credit fromthe state of Michigan on Tuesday to build a $35 million manufacturing plant in Highland Park.
